A Practice Report On Business Terms Under The Guidance Of Functional Equivalence Theory

As a common translation type,the translation of business terms in bidding documents is not only a business translation but also a legal translation.Business terms are stylistically standardized,logical,precise and have legal effect.It is extremely challenging for translators.The original text is excerpted from the biomass thermal power projects of Ming Yang Industrial Co.,LTD.Based on Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory,this report explains the main and difficult problems from four aspects: vocabulary,sentence,text and style in the translation of business terms in bidding documents.Through the analysis of the specific cases in this business terms and the description of the four steps advocated by Nida,the author makes a complete and detailed report on some gains from the translation practice.It is hoped that the description of the translation process of this project and the analysis of translation strategies on the main and difficult problems can provide reference and thinking for translators who are interested in the translation of bidding documents and business terms.This report can be divided into five parts: chapter one is the description of translation task,which briefly describes the source of original text,text characteristics and the research significance of translation;chapter two introduces Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory,including its origin and development,basic viewpoints and guiding significance in text translation;chapter three mainly introduces the pre-translation preparation,description of translation process,translation modification and the feedback after the translation;chapter four is about specific analysis mainly on vocabulary,sentence,text and style,and the strategies applied in translation;chapter five is the conclusion of the difficulties,the inspiration and further study about the translation project.
