It is generally acknowledged that the integration of global economy promotes economic contractsamong all countries and further improves them in span; depth and height than ever before. Especiallywith China’s becoming one member of WTO, its economic interactions in foreign trade withinternational communities have developed rapidly. Business written intercommunions, accordingly,have rapidly increased. The development of business English attracts many scholars to study them andthey propose many theories and suggestive opinions on practical business English translation. Butpractical business translation needs to be guided by systematical translation theories. Among them,Eugene A. Nida is a prominent one, and his functional equivalence influences many scholars in theworld now.This thesis mainly talks about three kinds of Business English text E-C translation guided by Nida’sFunctional Equivalence. Nida puts forward the extent of functional equivalence: from the minimum orreality functional equivalence to the maximum or ideal functional equivalence in order to illustrate theextent of the adequacy of translation more advance. We can comprehend reality functional equivalenceand ideal functional equivalence in this way: the designative meaning of text is reality functionalequivalence, and the associative meaning of the text is ideal functional equivalence. Nida’s functionalequivalence aims at attaining the adequacy of translation. Applying Nida’s functional equivalence toBusiness English text translation, translator should translate the designative meaning and the associativemeaning of Business text at the same time in order to attain the adequacy of translation. This is the keypoint. That is to say, translator should translate the designative meaning and the associative meaning ofthese three kinds of Business English text at the same time, which attain the adequacy of these threekinds of Business English text E-C translation. Thus it provides guidance three kinds of BusinessEnglish texts E-C translation and other Business English text E-C translation practices.This thesis includes five chapters:Chapter 1 is introduction. It will introduce the situation of Nida’s Functional Equivalence totranslation studies and state the reasons of applying Nida’s Functional Equivalence theory to BusinessEnglish translation. Furthermore, it introduces the situation of business English translation at home andabroad and the current situation of business English translation.Chapter 2 introduces Nida’s functional equivalence theory, the theory frame is the key point of this thesis. It can guide the theory of following chapter which mainly talk about three kinds of businessEnglish text E-C translation. That is to say, it is the theoretical basis of the whole thesis.Chapter 3 includes three parts, which are the definition, classification and features of the businessEnglish. Among them, the classification of the business English text has a guidance role in the followingchapter, and can help understand different kinds of business text more clear for the readers at the sametime. On introducing features of business English, readers can see unique features of the businessEnglish text, which can be prepared for understanding of different business English features.Chapter 4 is the most important part of this thesis. It provides three kinds of business English text,and the features of these from lexical level, syntactical level and textual level. What the most importantthings of this thesis are: first, how to apply Nida’s functional equivalence to these three kinds ofbusiness English texts for translating the syntactical meaning and textual meaning of them; second, howto translate the designative meaning and the associative meaning of these three kinds of businessEnglish texts at the same time, which can reach the adequacy of these business English texts E-Ctranslation. On this occasion, it can guide three kinds of business English texts E-C translation. What’smore, it can draw on the experience of others business English text E-C translation.Chapter 5 is the conclusion and limitation of this thesis, and some suggestions for further study.
