Research On The Textile Industry Development Of Zhengzhou During The “First Five-Year Plan”

At the beginning of the founding of the People's Republic of China,the textile industry of Henan province was quite backward.The ordinary working people were generally ragged,not sheltered in summer,and winter was not protected from cold.Solving the people's clothing needs has become a top priority.From 1953 to 1957,China implemented its first five-year plan.Zhengzhou was recognized by the state as one of the six major textile industrial bases in the country by virtue of its superior geographical environment,convenient transportation,abundant raw materials and sufficient labor advantages,the certain historical basis because of the established of Yufeng Yarn Factory in modern Zhengzhou.In 1953,Zhengzhou State Textile Factory Number 1 had begun construction.In the following years,with the speed of building a factory in one year,five state textile factories were quickly established in the deserted western suburbs of Zhengzhou,plus Zhengzhou State Textile Factory Number 2 that was built on the site of Yufeng Yarn Factory.The Zhengzhou Textile Industrial Base was initially established.During the “First Five-Year Plan”,due to the country's attention,support from all proviences and the establishment of the planned economic system,Zhengzhou textile industry develop rapidly.These reflects the good historical foundation of Zhengzhou textile industry,highlights the good location advantages of Zhengzhou,and has formed the characteristics of large scale,complete categories,fast speed,high output,strong technical force and obvious talent advantage.With the rapid development of Zhengzhou textile industry,the continuous increase in the number of workers,each cotton textile mills have gradually established a comprehensive life welfare system including food,shelter,education and medical care,and formed a unique annual festival etiquette and cultural and sports activities for textile workers.The influence of the textile industry on Zhengzhou is reflected in all aspects: not only guaranteed the needs of the people's clothing,but also provided a large amount of textile products for other economic sectors,and also accumulated a large amount of funds and foreign exchange earnings for the construction of Zhengzhou.In addition,under the influence of the textile industry,Zhengzhou initially established the urban development orientation based on light industry.Zhongyuan District became an industrial zone dominated by the textile industry,which affected the industrial structure and the proportion of light and heavy industries in Zhengzhou.promoted the urban development and municipal construction,and won the reputation of “Textile City” for Zhengzhou.
