A Report On The Translation Of Clothed,Female Figure:in The Light Of Conceptual Metaphor Theory

As an important rhetorical device,metaphor is a hot object for researchers.As cognitive linguistics developing,the research on metaphor is included in the field of cognitive linguistics.It is not only a method of polishing articles up,but also a way of cognition.It is not an exaggeration to say that people cannot communicate properly without metaphor.We should pay attention to the function of metaphor in daily life,let alone in the literature which is featured by refined diction and cultural connotation.Thus,how to translate metaphor,especially metaphor in literature,is a problem.As for translation of literature,the quality of metaphor translation has a great effect on the translation of the whole work.The source text of this report is Clothed,Female Figure by Kirstin Allio.There are many metaphorsin the text,which are difficult to translate.The report is mainly to analyze the examples of metaphor.With the help of two important concepts—"conceptualize" and"entailment" of conceptual metaphor theory,it sums up five kinds of translation methods:preserve images,preserve images with annotation,abandon images,change images,and translation of common metaphor.In addition,it proves the guidance meaning of conceptual theory for translation and enriches research on the translation of metaphor.
