| The report on the work the Chinese government is an authoritative political text of Chinese national state.Taking Chinese and English forms of the governmental work report(2019)as research object and combined with metaphor working mechanism of conceptual metaphor theory(CMT),the paper sums up metaphorical expressions in the report(2019),discusses the methods used in the metaphor translation and factors affecting the choosing of translation methods so as to provide effective new ideas for the high-quality metaphor translation in political contents.The main conclusions are as follows:firstly,according to the source domain of conceptual metaphor,this thesis sorts out the metaphors in the report and gets the result that there are 1475 conceptual metaphor in the report(2019)which can be classified into 13 types,including state metaphor,quantity metaphor,time metaphor,hierarchical metaphor,architectural metaphor,mechanical metaphor,human metaphor,plant metaphor,disease metaphor,travel metaphor,war metaphor,climate metaphor,and family metaphor.At the same time,with the purpose of discovering the proportion and distribution of metaphors,by calculating the resonance value of source domain and analyzing the use of various metaphors and their English expressions,it is concluded that human metaphor accounts for the highest proportion,26.284%,which reflects that Chinese administration has always followed the "people-oriented" principle of development.Secondly,through the detailed explanation of conceptual metaphors with some instances,it is concluded that there are four translation methods of metaphor in English form of the report(2019),namely,maintaining the same conceptual metaphor;translating into different conceptual metaphor;deleting conceptual metaphor and supplementing conceptual metaphor.It is found that the most frequently used method is maintaining the same conceptual metaphor,and the connotation of English conceptual metaphor will have some degrees of increase or decrease when the other three translation methods are applied.Thirdly,the study finds that there are two main factors which are language and culture information factors that influence the choosing of translation methods in the procedure of metaphor translation:language factors include the language requirements for accurate transmission of original information in translation of political text and the linguistic differences between Chinese and English;cultural information factors mainly refer to the context of cultural information overlap,the context of cultural information conflict and the context of the absence of cultural information between Chinese and English cultural information. |
