Qi is an important concept in ancient Chinese philosophy and traditional Chinese aesthetics.One of the greatest painters,He Xie,once put forward the important aesthetic theory of art vitality and vigour,which has been valued,recognized and praised by many people subsequently.Therefore,being both figurative as energy flow and real as breath in artistic creation and performance,qi is an important participant in the field of art,and thus becomes the basis of various art forms,and is also known as the source and internal motivation of artistic creation.Especially in music performance,"qi" is of decisive significance to the trend leading,performance quality and appealling ability of the music.As an erhu player,the author analyses the importance of breath in erhu performance while combing years of performance experience with aesthetic theories.The connection between and the application of "rhyme" and "qi" are specifically analyzed in terms of playing state,body tension,and notion terms,exemplified with Blue Flower Ballade,so as to express the view of the importance of "qi" in maintaining harmony between the player and the instrument.
