Vocabulary is the basis of English learning.English vocabulary pronunciation and spelling skills are essential to vocabulary learning. At present, pupils' vocabulary pronunciation and spelling abilities are not ideal, resulting in difficulties in memorizing words and affecting English learning interest and confidence.Phonics and phonetic alphabet teaching are two teaching methods to improve vocabulary pronunciation and spelling ability. However, each teaching method has its own shortcomings. The pronunciation rules of phonics only apply to about 80% of English words, and it is difficult for students to remember too many pronunciation rules.Phonetic symbols require students to memorize a new set of symbols and ignore the direct correspondence between letters and sounds, which makes spelling difficult. At the same time, students cannot read words without the help of phonetic symbols. Therefore, the author tries to combine the advantages of the two teaching methods to design teaching,so as to improve the vocabulary pronunciation and spelling ability of primary school students. The teaching process of this study takes letters and letter combinations as the starting point, uses phonics to establish phonetic correspondence, and then helps students to correct their pronunciation of phonetic symbols by combining natural spelling with phonetic symbols teaching closely. At the same time, syllable division method, vowel letters and letters combination are added to the teaching to improve students' abilities of reading and spelling multi-syllable words in unstressed syllables. There are various teaching methods, including the use of positive transfer of Chinese, the use of context teaching, letters and phonetic cards and phonetic awareness training. The research questions in this paper are as follows:(1)In what way does the teaching improve the vocabulary pronunciation ability of primary school students?(2)To what extent does the teaching of phonics and phonetic alphabet improve the vocabulary spelling ability of primary school students? The research methods of this paper are teaching experiment and questionnaire survey. In the teaching experiment, the author carried out an experiment on one class without setting up a control class. This paper examines the effectiveness of natural spelling and phonetic alphabet teaching by examining the improvement of pronunciation and spelling tests.Thirty students from Class 6,Grade 3,a primary school in Changchun City were pre-texted and post-texted pronunciation and spelling of vocabulary. The results of SPSS24 with paired samples T.It was found that there were significant differences in the results of students' pre-texted and post-texted pronunciation and spelling of vocabulary. The average score of submissions was high.It shows that phonics method and phonetic alphabet teaching are effective in improving pupils' vocabulary pronunciation and spelling abilities.Through questionnaires, the author investigated the use of phonics and phonetic symbols of 30 students in Class Six,Grade Three. The results show that students' ability to use natural spelling is not as good as phonetic alphabet.36.6% of the students need guidance in phonetic alphabet learning. The main conclusions of this paper are as follows: the teaching process and methods of phonics and phonetic alphabet in this paper can promote the pronunciation and spelling of vocabulary, improve the pronunciation and spelling ability of vocabulary, enhance the interest and confidence of primary school students in learning English.
