Vocabulary is the most basic element of English expression.So in this period which is the beginning of learning English,vocabulary teaching is very important for primary school students.In recent years,according to the characteristics of the students who start to learn English without any basics,many teachers who teach English in school and scholars have been exploring vocabulary teaching methods which is suitable for students' physical and mental development in practice and theory.Phonics has been applied to the English vocabulary teaching in primary school.But the application effect about Phonics in the English class need to be more studied.Therefore,the thesis hopes to explore whether Phonics can be applied to the primary school English vocabulary teaching in the lower grades of the new standard English(starting from the third grade)as the main teaching material by combining the research methods that they are qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis.The specific research questions are as follows:(1)Can Phonics improve the spelling of English vocabulary for the third grade students in primary school?(2)Can Phonics improve the spelling ability of English vocabulary for the third grade students in primary school?(3)Before and after applying Phonics in English vocabulary learning,are there any Changes in the attitude of the third grade students in primary school?Based on the previous research,this research chose two parallel classes as experimental class and control class from the third grade in primary school which is a school in Weifang,Shandong province.And it carried out the experiment of applying Phonics in English vocabulary teaching in the third grade in the primary school.Before the experiment,according to the spelling law of Phonics,the vocabulary in the teaching book were counted and analyzed,in order to find if the textbook is suitable for Phonics teaching.The spelling experiment lasted for one semester.After the experiment,according to the results which is the test about before and after the experiment,the differences between the experimental class and the control class in English spelling and spelling ability were analyzed by comparing the results.And the influence which is the application of Phonics in English spelling and spelling ability were also analyzed.At the same time,82 students in two classes were questioned about their interest and feelings in learning English vocabulary.According to the comparison of the data,the changes of interest and feelings that before and after the primary school students participated in the teaching experiment of Phonics in learning English vocabulary were analyzed.Through the qualitative and quantitative analysis of the above data,the main findings of this paper are as follows:(1)Through the empirical and comparative analysis of the data before and after the Englishspelling test,it is found that Phonics can improve the English spelling ability of the third grade students in primary.(2)Through the empirical and comparative analysis of the data before and after the English spelling test,it is found that Phonics can improve the English spelling ability of the third grade students in primary.(3)Through questionnaire survey and interview,it is found that students in the experimental class think the spelling rules they learn are very useful,and they are interested in spelling and spelling words,and they like English class more.In conclusion,this study shows that applying Phonics in the third grade in primary school can improve the spelling and spelling ability,and the students are interested in spelling and spelling words,and they like English more.At the same time,it is also necessary to see the shortcomings in the application of Phonics in actual teaching.Some shortcomings can be made up by double-line English teaching.
