The Effects Of Image Encoding On False Memory Created By Word List

The mechanism of false memory and how to effectively reduce the false memory rate were all research hotspot in memory psychology.The DRM paradigm(Deese/Roediger-McDermott paradigm)is one of the classic paradigms for studying false memory based on word list.Although many researchers had shown that intentional image encoding can reduce the false memories in DRM paradigms,but some researchers had found no such results,and the mechanism of image encoding to reduce false memories is not yet fully understood.To clar:ify the influence of image encoding on false memory,and how to use image encoding processing strategy to reduce false memory,this study designed three experiments.Experiment 1:discussed the effect of image encoding time on false memory.2((image encoding time:3 seconds,5 seconds)X 2(test type:free recall,recognition)mixed experiment design.image encoding time is an inter-group variable,test type is arn in-group variable.Experiment 2:discussed the effect of image encoding degree on false memory.2(image encoding time:3 seconds,5 seconds)X 2(image encoding degree:deep processing,shallow processing)X 2(test type:free recall,recognition)mixed experiment design,image encoding time and image encoding degree is an inter-group variable,test type is an in-group variable.Experiment 3:discussed the effect of the source of image encoding on false memory.2(the source of image encoding;individual,others)X 2(test type:free recall,recognition)mixed experiment design.the source of image encoding is an inter-group variable,test type is an in-group variable.The following conclusions were drawn from this study:(1)Image encoding time affects the false memory,in a longer encoding time,the longer the time is,the more detail information is remembered and the lower the memory error rate is.(2)When the encoding time is extended,the degree of image encoding and processing will affect the false memory created by word list,showed that the deeper the processing,the lower the false memory rate.(3)Sourced from its own image encoding can reduce false memory rate,this is related to the reduction of diffusion activation and the mastery of more details.
