The purpose of this thesis is to explore the effect of cooperative learning on English autonomous learning ability of senior high school students.This thesis mainly analyzes the effect from two aspects.First,what is the attitude of senior high school students towards cooperative learning.Second,what aspects of the English autonomous learning ability of senior high school students can be affected through cooperative learning.Based on Prof.Pang's definition of autonomous learning ability,this thesis mainly explores the effect of cooperative learning on six aspects of students' English autonomous learning ability: learning motivation,learning content,learning methods,learning time-management,learning process and self-evaluation of learning results.In this thesis,107 students of Grade 11 from two parallel classes are selected as the research subjects.The experiment is carried out for four months,during which ten times of cooperative learning are conducted.The experimental class adopts cooperative learning teaching method and the control class adopts the traditional teacher-centered teaching method.In the course of the experiment,the experiment is mainly based on reading teaching.After the experiment,the results of the post-test questionnaire are compared with those of the pre-test questionnaire.In order to further understand the students' attitudes towards cooperative learning and the effect of cooperative learning on English autonomous learning ability of students,ten students are randomly selected from each group after the experiment.The results show that most of the students have a positive attitude towards cooperative learning.And cooperative learning is helpful for improving students' autonomy in six aspects.In addition,based on the results of interviews,it is found that cooperative learning enhances students' self-efficacy,motivation and interest in learning English,prompt them to make their own learning plans and choose some extra-curricular books to read.It provides students with the opportunities to exchange ideas and opinions.In this process,students can feel the fun of communication in English together,and promote their cooperative ability.
