Under the tide of Chinese language culture promotion,Chinese as a second language is very popular around the world.The same is true in Nigeria.The Confucius Institute was established as early as 2008,and there are many Chinese learners.However,in the development process of the Confucius Institute,Chinese teaching is very difficult,especially the teaching of Chinese characters is a top priority,but also needs to be explored in depth.This paper takes the Confucius Institute at the University of Naddi Azikwe,Nigeria as an example,and uses questionnaires and interviews to investigate and analyze the teaching of Chinese characters.The questionnaire started from three aspects: teachers,textbooks and students.100 questionnaires were distributed to students of Confucius Institute,and 86 valid questionnaires were selected.From the questionnaire,explore the problems existing in the teaching of Chinese characters in Confucius Institutes.Through the analysis of the current situation of Chinese teaching in the Confucius Institute at Namdi Azikwe University,the author finds that the main problems in the current Chinese character teaching are as follows: First,the number of teachers is small,and the experience is generally not rich enough;Focus on reading and writing,the foundation of Chinese characters is not strong;thirdly,the Chinese textbooks currently used are not comprehensive enough and their applicability is insufficient.In response to these problems,the author puts forward some feasible countermeasures.On the one hand,it is necessary to promote the cultivation of local teachers and strengthen the basic skills training of teachers;on the other hand,it is necessary to write Chinese textbooks suitable for Nigeria's national conditions to improve applicability;Work hard on teaching,find out the shortcomings of students in learning Chinese characters,implement the importance of reading and writing Chinese characters,and guide students to develop in an all-round way.
