The English classroom,a major channel for EFL input,involves the students and English teachers who shall contribute to a sound classroom environment.Studying the status quo of students and English teachers' perception of the English classroom environment helps to improve conditions of EFL acquisition.It is of great significance to enhance students' physical and mental development and to improve students' English acquisition.This study investigates and studies the students' English classroom environment perception and the evaluation of English teachers in the Grade Two of junior high school.This study applies questionnaires and semi-structured interviews as research methods to acquire data.Then,detailed and in-depth analyses have been carried out on the data with SPSS 21.0 and transcript analysis.A total of 224 students and four English teachers from four parallel classes in a large independent junior high school in Longyan City have been selected as subjects to investigate the English classroom environment in the second grade.The study focuses on the following three issues :(1)What is the status quo of the perception of the actual English classroom environment and the ideal English classroom environment by eight-graders?(2)Are there differences in the actual English classroom environment perceptions of students of different genders and English proficiencies among eight-graders?(3)What is the overall evaluation of the current English classroom environment for English teachers in the second grade of Junior high school?The results of the study indicate:(1)There is a significant difference between the actual and the ideal English classroom environment perception among students of second grade(p =0.00).(2)No significant difference exists in the perception of actual English classroom environment between males and females in the second grade(p =0.379).However,in the ANOVA test the actual English classroom environment perception by students of various scores,no significant difference has been found between the high score group and the middle score group,while students in the low score group have significant differences with those in the other two groups;(3)The overall evaluation by the English teachers in the second grade on the current English classroom environment turns out to be in average level.Based on these findings,the paper puts forward some feasible suggestions for English teachers of second grade.First of all,optimize the actual English classroom environment to build an ideal English classroom environment;second,according to the English proficiency of students,give them specific help;finally,encourage teachers to improve their expectations on the perception of English classroom environment.
