In China, classroom is the main place for students to learn English. Therefore, students' perception and response to classroom environment will undoubtedly have a direct or indirect impact on students' learning. The previous results also show that a harmonious classroom environment can improve students' learning outcomes. This thesis mainly investigates the current situation of high school English classroom environment from the perspective of students' perception to find the problems of high school English classroom environment, which can provide teachers with suggestions to create a cheerful classroom atmosphere and improve teaching effects. This study mainly solves these problems:(1)What is the current situation of high school students' perception of English classroom environment?(2)What are the differences between high school students of different grades in their perception of English classroom environment? What causes these differences?Three classes of Grade 1 students and three classes of Grade 3 students from the Affiliated Middle School of Henan Normal University were selected as the research subjects. As for the research instrument, the author rearranged Fraser's scale named What is Happening in this Classroom and combined the actual classroom environment of this school and obtained High School English Classroom Environment Questionnaire for this research. After the questionnaire was distributed to the research subjects,SPSS17.0 was used to conduct descriptive statistical analysis and the analysis of significant differences between two grades.Through the analysis, the conclusions were presented as follows.Firstly, the high school students have a good perception of the English classroom environment.Secondly, compared with Grade 1 students,Grade 3 students have a better overall perception of the English classroom environment.Thirdly,Grade 1 and Grade 3 students' perception have significant differences in three dimensions of classroom involvement, task orientation and cooperation. In addition,12 students of two grades were interviewed to have an in-depth understanding of the overall situation of the high school English classroom environment. After interviews, this thesis analyzed the reasons for the differences in the students' perception of high school English classroom environment in two different grades. In terms of classroom involvement, compared with Grade 3,Grade 1 students' perception of classroom involvement is low due to their short time of getting along with classmates and teachers, less familiarity with the new school environment, and restrictions of their own personality and English level. In terms of task orientation, the perception of Grade 3 is better, because Grade 1 students need a period of adaptation to the teaching style of high school. The task in the classroom is not clear enough for Grade 1 and there is no review or summary for each lesson, which make students feel less aware of the task orientation; In terms of cooperation, the perceptions of the two grades are generally low. However, because Grade 3 students have a long time to get together, the cooperation is highly acquainted, and they have a clear understanding of the purpose of cooperation. Therefore, the perception of Grade 3 is higher than that of Grade 1.Finally,on the basis of the research results, this thesis made recommendations on the teaching design and classroom environment.
