This thesis studies the learning motivation types of Chinese learners in Bulgaria by means of questionnaires and interviews.And this thesis analyses whether gender,age,personality,learning time,Chinese level and other language learning experience affect the motivation of Chinese learners in Bulgaria.Furthermore,this thesis investigates whether the decline of learning motivation will appear and the reasons for the decline.This thesis is based on the D?rnyei’s three aspect theory of learning motivation and Gardner and Lambert’s learning motivation theory.Combined with teaching practice in Bulgaria,we divide the learning motivation into three types:learning motivation in the language aspect,the learning motivation in the learner aspect and the learning motivation in the learning situation aspect.The learning motivation in the language aspect is divided into integrative motivation and instrumental motivation.We investigate the learning motivation of 63 Chinese learners from the Confucius Institute of Beliko Ternovo University.The results show that: firstly,the overall motivation of Chinese learners in Bulgaria is at intermediate level.The learning motivation in the learning situation aspect is the strongest and the learning motivation in the language aspect is the weakest.Secondly,there are significant differences in instrumental motivation in the language aspect among learners of different genders and ages.Thirdly,students with different personalities have significant differences in the learning motivation in the learner aspect.Fourthly,there are significant differences in integrative motivation in the language aspect among learners of different learning time.Fifthly,13.11% of Chinese learners in Bulgaria who were investigated had a diminished motivation.According to the results of the analysis,we put forward some suggestions to the Confucius Institute,the local school and the Chinese teachers in order to stimulate and maintain the motivation of Chinese learners in Bulgaria.
