The Norman Conquest in 1066 had a great influence on English history, marking the end of the old era and the beginning of the new one. This important historical event is bound to require the interpretation and understanding by the English historians from later generations, which results in the accumulated historical writing of Norman Conquest. This dissertation mainly takes William of Malmesbury's Norman Conquest narrative as an example, discussing its different aspects and his important position in the history of the Norman Conquest narrative. This dissertation is divided into three parts:introduction, text and conclusion. The introduction primarily introduces the theme and related background of the thesis. The main bodv includes four chanter(?)The(?)(?)of w(?)am of Malmesbury's Norman Conquest narrative-the fusion of lineage, the enlightenment and the disaster. He took the Norman Conquest as a process of integration of Norman and English ancestry, which began from the marriage of King(?)Ethelred ? and Emma of Normandy and would end at the coronation of William(?)Etheling or Empress Matilda. He also emphasized that the Norman Conquest had brought purification and development to the secular, church and other aspects of England, and provided a template for learning to the later rulers. On the other hand,he also regarded the event of 1066 as a great disaster for England. The Normans enslaved English people and re-corrupted the English Church. The fourth chapter mainly analyzes the contradictions of his Norman Conquest narrative and its causes, and anchors his unique position in the history of Norman Conquest narrative. The last part of the dissertation summarizes the above views, and makes a new prospect to the related problems and research. In general, the Norman Conquest narrative of William of Malmesbury has three aspects(the fusion of lineage, the enlightenment and the disaster). As a result,he occupies a unique position in the historical writing of the Norman Conquest in the Middle Ages.He was the first historian who tried to balance the interests of England and Norman, and to make a detailed and multidimensional narrative of the Norman Conquest. His positive comments and negative emotion also had a different influence on the interpretation of the Norman Conquest by later historians.
