At present,“holistic tourism” has become the core concept of China's tourism industry. In order to fully understand the impact of “holistic tourism on China's tourism industry, the National Tourism Administration issued a work report---Holistic Tourism Development Work Report 2017(shortened as Work Report). This Work Report makes it convenient for investors to better grasp the current situation and development trend of China's tourism industry and further promote the cooperative development of foreign trade and tourism. Therefore,it is quite necessary to translate the Work Report into English, and this report based on the Work Report and its English version possesses much reference significance and extensive practical value.First, the report introduces the background of the project, briefly describes relevant literature, and illustrates the significance of the research.According to the text type, the author chooses Communicative Translation and Scopos Theory as her guide to translation.Next, the report describes the linguistic features of the source language text from the lexical, syntactic and textual levels, which contains a large number of professional words,Chinese-featured words, metaphorical words, and long difficult sentences, sentences without subjects, fixed structure, etc. Then the thesis elaborates the three translation procedures,namely,pre-translation preparations, comprehension and reproduction of the source text and post-translation proofreading.Through analysis of the report,we can easily grasp the linguistic characteristics of the target language text, such as the use of substantial words, the nominalization of verbs, explanatory nouns, and frequent use of compound sentences, the passive voice and present perfect tenses. Then, the author demonstrates the feasibility of literal translation, free translation and integrated translation by analyzing typical examples. The writer focuses on various techniques for translation of Chinese parallelism and sentences with no subjects, such as omission and substitution of predicate verbs in parallelism, and the addition of “we” or infinitive verbs as subjects in sentences without subjects. This report is intended to provide reference for translation of tourism development work reports and other reports in other industries.
