The research about the body language was started abroad.In China,most of the researches on body language are aimed at mother-tongue learners.Based on the teaching practice,the author found that body language also has a strong theoretical and practical significance in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.But there isn't so much research about the body language used in elementary Chinese comprehensive course in a cross-cultural context.This article is going to record the elementary Chinese comprehensive class in the Confucius Institute at Sarajevo University in Bosnia and Herzegovina.Based on the record above,the author try to analyze the influence and effect brought to the class by the body language.It could be an enlightenment to the body language use in elementary Chinese comprehensive course in eastern Europe countries.The whole thesis falls into four chapters.The first chapter is an introduction.It mainly elaborates the background,significance,purpose,methods,and the current research results of the body language,including the research about the body language itself and the usage of the body language in teaching.The second chapter is the theoretical basis of this thesis.It briefly explained the definition,classification,characteristics and functions of the body language based on the compilation and summarization of the collected documents.And the feasibility analysis is carried out to illustrate the fitness and relationship between the body language and this research here.The third chapter briefly describes the procedure of this research and the analysis about it.The research object is introduced,including related teachers,students,textbook and teaching environment.Then,six specific cases are used to illustrate the application of the body language in the elementary Chinese comprehensive course in the Confucius Institute of Sarajevo University.Based on these cases,the function and the effect of the teachers' body language are analyzed and induced to the teaching of the pronunciation,vocabulary,grammar and Chinese character.At the end of this chapter,a questionnaire is used to investigate the students' feedback about the usage of the teachers' body language.The fourth chapter summarizes the whole thesis.The conclusion is that the using of body language really brings helpful effect to our teaching.The more frequently and actively the teacher uses body language correctly,the better the teaching effect.The teachers' body language can influence the students' interest towards Chinese class directly.At the same time,the author hope that this article could make latecomers know something about the body language use in the Chinese lesson in Eastern Europe countries.We should use our body language properly when the students are not native English speakers.Meanwhile,the author give some suggestions on the body language use in teaching Chinese abroad according to the research results in order to provide some help for the teachers.
