A Research On Chinese Learning Motivation Among Sri Lankan Students

The learning motivation of learners plays an important role in their learning process.The learning motivation refers to the reason or purpose of learners' learning.This paper investigates the motivation of Sri Lankan students to learn Chinese,taking the University of Kelaniya and Sabaragamuwa university as case in point.In Sri Lanka,there are a few studies on Chinese learning motivation,but the research in this field is very common in abroad.This survey utilizes a lot of theories and methods which are related to second language learning motivation.The main research methods that have been used are questionnaire survey,literature research method and classroom observation.After entering the survey data into Excel software for detailed analysis,it has been learned the motivation of most Sri Lankan students to learn Chinese and the related situation.In addition,this paper also explores the influence of Sri Lankan students' gender,age and Chinese learning period on their learning motivation.Finally,this paper provides some suggestions and Countermeasures on how to rectify Sri Lankan students' motivation to learn Chinese.This paper consists of five chapters.Chapter one elaborates the research reasons,research questions,research purpose and significance,as well as the related research situation,the theoretical knowledge of research methods and learning motivation.The second chapter mainly explains the definition of learning motivation,the types of learning motivation,the general situation of Chinese teaching in Sri Lanka and theinvestigation of Chinese learning motivation of Chinese learners in both the universities.Chapter three discusses the analysis and results of the survey of Sri Lankan students' motivation to learn Chinese.This chapter includes the main data analysis of the questionnaire survey,the general situation and analysis of the motivation types of Kelaniya and Sabaragamuwa university students,and the summarization.Chapter Four puts forward the factors that affect the motivation of the university students to learn Chinese and the solutions.The last chapter denotes how to rectify Sri Lankan students' motivation to learn Chinese,thereby providing further reference on how to enhance students' interest in learning Chinese and how to improve students' ability to learn Chinese are also being discussed.
