| In order to promote exchanges and cooperation in science and technology between China and other countries,accurate translation of foreign scientific and technological materials is indispensable.Translation of agricultural science and technology is of paramount importance in strengthening international agricultural cooperation.In this translation practice report,I choose to use cohesion theory put forward by Halliday and Hasan to analyze the translation strategies for agricultural science and technology text Agricultural Development Plan.The text describes the agricultural outlook and development plan of Papua New Guinea,which provides new ideas for further deepening the mutually beneficial and win-win strategic partnership between China and Papua New Guinea.Since scientific and technological English is characterized by coherence,conciseness and precision,the translator is supposed to use various cohesive devices to make the translation semantically correct and logically acceptable.In this thesis,I explore the translation strategies for agricultural science and technology texts under the guidance of Halliday’s cohesion theory.According to Halliday,cohesion has two main types:grammatical cohesion and lexical cohesion.Here I mainly focus on grammatical cohesion.The thesis summarizes three main translation strategies with typical examples:retaining the cohesive means in the original text,adjusting or changing the cohesive means,and omitting the cohesive means.The translation practice helps to sharpen my understanding of the differences between English and Chinese cohesive devices to facilitate more effective translation. |
