| Translation of texts on science and technology is becoming more and more significant in the development of construction industry and international exchanges.The selected translation material,Light in Architecture-The Intangible Material,provides a direction for how to make use of light in architecture,the translation of the material is of great significance for the use of light and the translation of science and technology texts.Since Halliday & Hasan put forward the Cohesion Theory,many scholars at home and abroad have done a lot of research on it.However,the most translation studies under the Cohesion Theory have been applied in literature translation and the comparison of cohesive devices in English and Chinese while relatively few studies in science and technology translation.Thus,this thesis aims to analyze some cohesive devices in translation tasks under the guidance of the Cohesion Theory.Based on the English-Chinese translation of Chapter three in Light in Architecture-The Intangible Material,the author finds that at the lexical level,terminology is widely used;at the syntactic level,long and complex sentences and nominalization are greatly used.And there are lexical cohesion and grammatical cohesion.These cohesive devices have the following characteristics: in grammatical cohesion,the frequency of reference and connection is relatively high,and in lexical cohesion,the frequency of repetition and synonyms is more.the translator mainly adopts literal translation methods and translation techniques of repetition,omission,addition and shift.Through the application of the Cohesion Theory,and the adoption of the translation method and translation techniques make the translation accurate and smooth,cater to the expressive habits of the target text readers and enhance the coherence of the text.Through the study of the Cohesion Theory and science and technology translation.,The thesis hopes to provide reference for translation research in relevant fields and the science and technology translation. |
