A Study On EST Translation From The Perspective Of Cohesion Theory

While science and technology are primary productive forces, English for science and technology (EST) has become an important tool to the development of technology. It is practical to analyze the translation of EST for the needs of times. With Special Reference to E-C translation of Introduction to Naval Architecture (Chapterl5), this thesis illustrates the translation skills of EST from the perspective of Cohesion Theory. It consists of five parts.The first part is introduction and the second part describes this translation program. The third introduces the cohesion theory which has significant influence on the program as well as establishes a solid theoretical foundation for the EST translation. Based on examples, the fourth part summarizes some translation skills. From the perspective of reference, substitution,ellipsis, conjunction and lexical cohesion, we could come up with better translation of EST.Also we can provide more information about Naval Architecture to the persons who engaged in related fields and some reference to the translators of EST. The last part is about the summary and the shortcomings of this thesis.
