The mind map created by Tony Buzan has been confirmed that it can enhance people's individual learning ability and innovative thinking skills. This paper attempts to apply mind mapping to teaching English reading in primary schools, and uses classroom observation, questionnaires and interviews to analyze the results,in order to put forward some strategies to improve English reading teaching in primary schools. It is obvious that scholars at home and abroad focus on research more on aspects such as mind map concept itself, production software, teaching, training, management, planning and so on.However, the studies on the application of mind map in primary school reading teaching are very limited.Based on the theory of mind mapping and the author's one-semester internship experience in Binshui Primary School,Jimei District,Xiamen City, the paper attempts to discuss the following questions: Firstly, what is the current situation of English reading in primary school? Secondary, what are impacts and effects of mind mapping on teaching of English reading in primary school?Through classroom observations, questionnaires and interviews, the following conclusions are given:For the current situation of English reading, students are interested in English reading, but they have difficulties in studying and their learning method is single and their self-learning ability is general.Besides, teaching methods of English reading is single. In terms of impacts on reading teaching, firstly, mind mapping can improve the explanatory validity of teachers in reading teaching, help students sort out the context of the article, and establish a structure map,so as to better achieve the teaching objectives of reading teaching;Secondly, applying mind mapping into readingteaching improves students' participation in the classroom, increases the proportion of students' and teachers' discourse, and helps to construct a more democratic classroom environment; Finally, applying mind mapping into primary school English reading teaching can help teachers guide students to do self-learning and cooperative learning, and improve students' abilities of self-learning and cooperative learning. In terms of teaching effects, most students thought mind mapping can increase their interests in English reading. In teachers' view, the mind map can inspired students' learning enthusiasm and cultivated their team spirits.Besides, mind mapping can effectively improve students 'reading achievement and classroom efficiency. At the same time, the paper also found some shortcomings of mind mapping, firstly, applying mind mapping into English reading teaching requires teachers to have higher quality, invisibly increasing the time for teachers to prepare lessons;secondly, primary school students may focus on the aesthetics of pictures,so it wastes them unnecessary time. These problems are also worth concerning. This paper is divided into five chapters.Chapter One elaborates the background and significance of the research and stricture of thesis;Chapter Two mainly summarizes the latest research progress and related theories of mind mapping at home and abroad; The research design is in Chapter Three;Chapter Four is analysis of results and discussion;Chapter Five is the research conclusions and teaching suggestions of the whole study.
