With the development of China's economic and social environment and the continuous advancement of urbanization, the construction of public art in small towns has gradually gained the attention from all walks of life.National departments and local governments have also issued relevant regulations and guiding policies to promote the construction of small towns, especially the small towns with regional features. In order to reflect the regional features, culture and tourism characteristics of a small town, public art is the most intuitive and the most obvious form of expression in the construction of small towns. Therefore, integrating public art into the construction of small towns to make it a significant part of the cultural construction is one of the important contents of the construction of small towns in China in the future. The public art in small towns with regional features will also play an important role in the improvement of local cultural environment and the development of tourism industry.By combining theoretical research with field research, this paper selects four representative small towns in Beijing,Hebei,Sichuan and Zhejiang to study and explore the regional public art.Due to the limitation of space, this paper only takes the murals and wall decorations that are common in small towns in China as the main research object.Through a comprehensive analysis of field research cases,we discusses how to use the form of public art to highlight regional features and inherit the unique regional history and culture. This paper also puts forward the problems existing in the public art of small towns in China, and gives suggestions on the development ideas and application principles of public art in small towns.Meanwhile, based on these principles, the case design of public space in small towns around Beijing is tried to carry out.Jiankou Village(Yanqi Town,Huairou District,Beijing) was selected as the practical object of the case'According to the characteristics and existing problems of the village,a targeted renovation design of public art was carried out. After many researches and design practices, this paper draws the following conclusions:In the development of public art in small towns in China, there are widespread problems such as excessive plagiarism, single expression and content, lack of local characteristics, and lack of regional characteristics. Therefore,if we want to strengthen the construction and improvement of public art in small towns,we must first integrate the public art with regional characteristics into the planning and design of small towns, and follow the principles of overall design and partial implementation. At the same time,on the basis of protecting the local environment, the government's management and public participation will be further strengthened,so that the construction of public art in small towns can better reflect the local culture and better reflect the unique style of small towns. It is hoped that through the research and exploration of this topic,it will provide a good theoretical foundation and design ideas for the development of public art in small towns, and realize the integration of public art and regional features in small towns.
