In China's "13th Five-Year Plan",it is proposed that the cultural industry should be built into a pillar industry of the national economy. It is necessary to promote the development of cultural trade and the "going out" of Chinese cultural products.China has become the largest exporter of cultural products in the world after 2010.As the fifth largest partner of China on cultural trade,Japan, which also is one of the countries that has a long history of cultural exchange with China, keeps a close relationship with China on cultural products trade. There is a possibility of further expand on trade of cultural products between China and Japan. In this paper, cultural products trade is defined at first. And then characteristics of cultural trade and related theories of the development of cultural trade is analyzed.Later, the development of cultural products trade between China and Japan is discussed in the paper. It is found that the trade of cultural products between the two countries can be regarded as typical vertical intra industry trade, but the intra industry trade does not influence changes of cultural products trade volume obviously.Affected by political relationship, the trade volume has increased sharply since 2006 and reached the peak in 2008.However,in recent years, the trade volume has declined year by year, and the trade surplus of China to Japan has narrowed. The cultural products in trade is mainly consist of performing and celebrating products as well as visual and handicraft products. And China keeps a more closely relationship with Japan on trade in design and creative services products compared with other countries.Next, researching on the factors that affect the cultural products trade between China and Japan,it is concluded that cultural distance, income gap, cultural industry scale and economic openness will affect the development of bilateral cultural products trade. The empirical study shows cultural products trade can be promoted by shortening cultural distance and encouraging cultural communication. And there is a significant positive correlation between the income gap and the trade volume of cultural products. The expansion of cultural industries in two countries can also promote the growth of trade volume of cultural products.Although there is no stable long-term relationship between the economic openness and the trade volume of cultural products, the increase of the dependence on foreign trade of the two countries can greatly promote bilateral cultural products trade in the short term. The number of tourists, the income difference, the scale of cultural industry and the dependence on foreign trade can Granger cause the change of the trade volume of cultural products. And the trade volume will respond positively to positive impacts of the four variables.Among the variables, the number of tourists and the dependence on foreign trade can influence the cultural products trade volume greatly. Finally, policy recommendations to government and enterprises are put forward based on the findings.
