Coping Strategies Of Cohesion In English-Chinese Consecutive Interpretation Of Impromptu Speech:A Report On The Interpretation Of RBC Small Business Panel

This report is based on the interpretation practice of Canada RBC Small Business Live Panel.After text analysis,interpretation practice and compilation and summary of source language and target language,it is found that the difficulty of this corpus mainly focuses on the cohesion problem.The cohesion problem of this corpus is manifested in the problem of semantic cohesion and logical cohesion.The semantic cohesion problem is mainly divided into two categories: for the problem of unclear pronoun,interpreter adopts the cohensive device of reference to improve semantic cohesion and coherence;for the information redundancy problem,the device of ellipsis is adopted,omitting redundant information in the guest's words to avoid the difficulty in decoding by the audience.The problem of logical cohesion in this corpus is manifested in the problem of looseness logic and sudden intervention of information.The interpreter adopts the cohensive device of conjunction,converting and adding logical connector,strengthening logical cohension;and the method of reinventing sentence structure,with reference to structural cohesive device combined with Chinese expression habits to ensure orderly structure and clear logic cohesion.This paper proposes some feasible strategies for cohesion problem in impromptu interview.Hopefully it can be of help for other interpreters when translating similar corpus in the future.
