Mind mapping is a visual cognitive tool and also a radioactive thinking method.With the increasing use of mind mapping,this kind of visual cognitive tool has been gradually introduced into the field of education,and has a significant influence on teaching.It has become an important tool to improve students’ thinking ability,stimulate their interests in learning,and guide their creative thinking.It is well known that mastery of English words is the key for learning English well.However,almost all the students are afraid of memorizing words,which has become a major obstacle in English learning.The thesis takes the outline English vocabulary of primary school in Grade Five as an example of teaching,and tries to help students to memorize words with mind mapping.It mainly uses several methods to study,such as experimentation,case study,questionnaires,documentation and interviews.By using MindMaster,the thesis designs words mapping to test students.The purpose is to explore the effectiveness of mind mapping in promoting students’ memory of English vocabulary through practice,explore the application effect of mind mapping in English vocabulary teaching,cultivate students’ creative thinking way and improve their interests in English learning.The study fulfills the tasks as follows: Firstly,the thesis has reviewed the related studies abroad and at home as well as the development of mind mapping in different countries at present.The thesis also expounded and defined some related concepts,such as mind mapping,concept mind mapping,clustering,English vocabulary memory,English vocabulary mapping and so on.Through analysis of relevant literature,the thesis further understood the research status in related fields of this subject and theoretically explained the feasibility of mind mapping in promoting English vocabulary teaching.Secondly,the thesis has explored five modes of vocabulary mind mappingwith MindMaster software in practice,namely mode of branches,classification,chart,correlation and association and accumulated rich case resources by applying English words mapping in class.Thirdly,the thesis designed English words mapping to make ten tests for students according to their vocabulary level.It has explored and verified the effectiveness of English vocabulary mapping on promoting words’ memory,analyzed and summarized the results of the tests.By using the method of comparative experiment,questionnaire and interview,the thesis has verified the effectiveness of mind mapping.The data were processed and analyzed with Excel and SPSS statistical software.The study aims at finding out the answers to the following questions:Firstly,to what extent has the application of mind mapping teaching method greatly aroused the students’ interests in English vocabulary learning?Secondly,has the teaching strategy of mind mapping stimulated the students’ imagination and activated their memory? Thirdly,has the application of mind mapping teaching method improved the students’ English learning level? The results showed:Mind mapping can arouse the students’ interests in learning English words,promote the interaction between teachers and students,enhance the communication and cooperation between classmates,stimulate the students’ imagination and creativity,and cultivate their thinking ability.In the end,the thesis summarized the limitations in the study and put forward the further research tasks.
