Continuation task is put forward based on the interaction theory. Its main form is the interaction between people(learners)and text.Continuation task makes up for the shortage of lack of interaction for Chinese learners. But in the previous researches,“continuation” is applied into the task of writing, and few researchers have applied it into the task of speaking. So it needs further attention to apply “continuation” into the task of speaking, and explore the effect of continuation task on oral fluency and accuracy.Besides,4/3/2 technique has been widely proved to have positive effect on oral fluency and accuracy. In 4/3/2 activity, learners have to repeat the same contents in shrinking-time condition. In the previous researches regarding 4/3/2 technique, learners are required to deliver their talks without language input, and no researcher has ever combined it with continuation task.So this study tries to combine 4/3/2 technique with the continuation task to explore the effect of the combination of them on oral fluency and accuracy, aiming to broaden the perspective of continuation task study and provide practical evidence for oral teaching. This study applies the 4/3/2 technique into the continuation task, and compares it with the 2/2/2 technique(the constant-time condition),aiming to explore the effects of argumentation speaking and narration speaking on oral fluency and accuracy in the 4/3/2activity,and the difference of alignment in argumentation speaking and narration speaking. The study takes two classes of English major sophomores of one university in Hebei Province as research subjects(28 subjects for each class),and adopts both qualitative and quantitative research methods. The experiment lasts two weeks, and two classes of students are instructed to deliver their talks in shrinking time condition(3/2/1)and constant time condition(2/2/2)alternatively.The results show that: oral fluency and accuracy are significantly enhanced in the shrinking-time condition, while no significant change regarding them is attested in the constant-time condition;the difference of genre has influence on alignment amounts, and the alignment effect in argumentation speaking ismore intense than that in narration speaking. Those results may provide some inspirations for the teaching of oral English and the study of continuation task.
