Subscription is an important means of language expression in theatrical performance. It can be used as a "lubricant" for plot cohesion or scene switching, and can make the characters' language express authentically and naturally. The subtext is the thinking, hope and intention of the characters hidden under the subtext. It requires the actors not only to express the external image of the characters, but also to shape the inner temperament of the characters,so as to show the audience the real and amiable characters with both physical and spiritual features. In theatrical performances, subtext is an important means for actors to convey their feelings to the audience and plays a decisive role in shaping the characters. In theatrical performances, there are a lot of dialogues, but if only the lines are narrated emptily, the stage performance will be empty and boring. The effective and rational use of subtexts will add to the drama performance, make the characters vivid, make the rhythm of language and emotion reach a climax, and make the audience resonate. This paper discusses the concept and characteristics of subtext, and combines with the author's graduation drama Eight Women,to analyze the important role of Subtext in performing and creating characters, and then to explore how actors should correctly use Subtext in the performance process. The paper combines the profoundtheoretical viewpoints with the practical basis, and draws precise and refined innovative conclusions. At the same time,it fills the theoretical gap through practical experience to improve the depth of the dissertation. It is hoped that through this study,in the future character creation, the performance will be more vivid and natural, and more classical stage images and works will be created for the audience, making contributions in the field of performance.
