Mei Guangdi is a famous scholar in the 20 th century, the initiator of the magazine?Xueheng?and the spiritual leader of xueheng school.Mei's view on literarute and culture is indispensable in China's cultural modernization transformation.Mei Guangdi has long been labeled old-fashioned and elitism for his opposition to colloquialism and the founding of xueheng. However, returning to the historical facts, that is not necessarily the case.Mei Guangdi put forward the argument that “literary revolution should start with folk literature” in the debate with Hu Shi,which made him the first modern scholar to use the concept of “folk literature” and pay attention to the effect of folk literature in literary revolution.Reflect on Mei Guangdi's growing environment, education background and ideological origin, his literary view of harmony and justice is formed on the basis of the comparison and integration of Chinese and western literature and has its folk feelings and thoughts behind it.The folk consciousness in this view of literature cannot be simply obliterated because of his “intellectual aristocracy” position, which is generally hold by conservatives. The folk tendency and folk consciousness in Mei Guangdi's literary view have important enlightening significance for the re-recognition of the new culture movement, the present study of folk literature and folklore, and the cultural choice in the new era. Therefore, this paper will focus on the folk consciousness in Mei Guangdi's literary view, aiming at exploring the source, connotation and influence of this deeply buried but precious folk consciousness, and thus making a more objective grasp of Mei Guangdi's view on literature.Furthermore,to make a new reflection on the historical process of Chinese folk literature and seek enlightenment for the development of this subject in the new era.
