The practice report is based on English-Chinese translation practice of a book,Lexical Pragmatics and Theory of Mind.The translation task is part of the supervisor's research project that the translator participated in June,2018.Lexical Pragmatics and Theory of Mind is an interdisciplinary book of language systems and mental processes focusing on the relation between language and theory of mind abilities.By introducing linguists' different studies,the source text is devoted to argue that children's developing linguistic abilities is a window on their developing theory of mind abilities.The practice report is composed of five chapters.The first chapter briefly describes the source,content and requirement and stresses the significance of task.The second chapter gives a description of the whole translation process on aspects of preparation,translation and revision.Before translation,it mainly involves being familiar with the whole book,reading the text intensively to determine the type of text and collecting parallel texts to determine the style of the Chinese version.In translation and revision part,it describes schedule and proofreading.In the third chapter,the translator applies text type theory into the translation process.Through clarifying the function of the text,the translator grasps translation requirements of the informative text.The fourth chapter is the center of thesis in which the translation strategies are used in details from lexical,syntactic and textual level.The translation of lexical level includes the translation of proper nouns,terms and non-finite verbs.The translation of sentences refers to the translation of passive sentences,complex sentences and attribute clauses.From textual level,the translation analyzes the coherence and cohesion.Last,the translator summarizes the integral process of this translation task realizing the importance of preparation before translation and acknowledges psychological and linguistic knowledge.In a word,the translator achieves valued experience from the translation.
