A Practice Report On The English-Chinese Translation Of Film Subtitle Of Stir Crazy

This practice report is the subtitle translation of the American film Stir Crazy of Aiqiyi video website.Entrusted by Aiqiyi video website,the translator finished the subtitle translation from Reel One B to Reel Six B of the film from May 2017 to October 2017.As a crime comedy which was shot back in 1980 in America,the film is full of Western social phenomenons,social customs and slangs.As a crime comedy of the early 1980 s of America,the overall tone of the film is relaxed and humorous.As the main characters of the film are people living at the bottom of the society,there are plenty of informal words,names,places and slangs.The main difficulties of the translation are the language style and the translation of the slangs.The preparation of the translation can be divided into four parts.Part One is the theoretical preparation.The translation practice is mainly guided by the Skopos theory.Part Two is the analysis of the source text and some other parallel texts.Part Three is the rules of subtitle translation,and the differences between subtitle translation and ordinary text translation and the typesetting rules of subtitle translation.Part Four is the translation method of the slangs of the source text.This report comprises five chapters: task description,process description,preparations for translation,case analysis and conclusion.The guiding principles of translation include the skopos rule,the coherence rule and the fidelity rule of the Skopos theory.In the translation practice,the translator has got familiar with the relevant principles and significance of subtitle translation,and has deeply understood the profound significance of subtitle translation in cross-cultural communication.The translator's ability of understanding and practicing of relevant translation theories has been improved in the process of translation.
