Research On The Relationship Between Historical Memory And Historiography

Historical memory is the process by which people remember,forget,recall,maintain,and recognize things they are experiencing or experienced.According to different perspectives,historical memory can be refined into many types,such as individual memory and collective memory,good memory and traumatic memory.Regardless of the type,historical memory always has some connection with the past.However,the awakening of historical memory is always related to the reality of the individual.In this way,the past and the present constitute a complete historical picture.Based on the fact that history is an objective human activity,the pursuit of the objective historiography is the eternal goal of historians.However,in historical research,the subjective component of the researcher is inevitably involved.The historiography include various historical materials,official history,private history books and other textual levels as well as various physical aspects such as handed down or unearthed objects.Both the text and the real thing carry historical memory.Therefore,historical memory has an influence that cannot be ignored in the generation and evolution of historiography;also,due to historiography,historical memory has been preserved.However,due to its paradox,historical memory has the characteristics of variation,discipline,and remodeling while being preserved.As a result,the paradox of historical memory makes historiography a diverse form,and the two sides are mutually influential.Especially when it comes to the research and evaluation of historical figures.Looking back at the Empress Dowager Cixi's historical image,from a vertical perspective,its overall historical image is from front to the negative to the compromise.From a horizontal perspective,no matter which period,the three historical images of Empress Dowager Cixi are intertwined.The evolution of its longitudinal historical image is often influenced by the social environment,thereby forming a collective memory of the Empress Dowager Cixi,and this collective memory is formed through the discipline of individual memory.The horizontal multi-faceted historical image is due to the flexibility of individualmemory.Moreover,no matter which form of historical memory is presented,it is related to the reality of ancient and modern times.
