| This report,under the guidance of Catford’s translation shifts theory,studies the phenomenon of translation shifts in E-C translation of the first four chapters of Tackling Bullying in Your School.Great distinctions between English and Chinese often pose difficulties for the translator in reconciling textual equivalence and formal correspondence when translating sentences involving tense,aspect,number,structure,class,etc.,therefore,on the basis of a full understanding of the differences between English and Chinese,this report,taking Catford’s theory of translation shifts as the guiding theory,studies the phenomenon of translation shifts in English to Chinese translation and analyzes when and how to use the two methods of level shifts and category shifts to translate so as to achieve textual equivalence without being restricted by formal correspondence with the help of examples excerpted from the source text. |
