Yellow Register Retreat is one of the most important registers of the Scripture of Ling Bao.At present,the academic circle dose not have any particular study on the Yellow Register Retreat,which is only mentioned in the process of studying Taoist Ritual,Taoist history,DunHuang Daoist Scripture,etc.And the analysis of the origin,meaning and specific rituals of the Yellow Register Retreat lacks of special discussion.This article arrives at a conclusion that the Yellow Register Retreat come from the ancient Scripture of Ling Bao,the ritual of TianShi School and ShangQing School,and the pre-qin etiquette.It is generally agreed that the Yellow Register Retreat is a death ceremony,however,through further research on several studies,the Yellow Register Retreat is simply not a deceased instrument,but a fact that confession as the main method,turn deadly as the main goal,and will eventually merit to the living and the whole world,praying for people.Lu xiu-jing felt the disorder of the Yellow Register Ritual,so he officially renamed it as the Yellow Register Retreat based on the integration of the chart by the ancient Scripture of Ling Bao.And its function was to draw the nine ancestral roots.According to the classical citations and explanations in the past dynasties,as well as the basic structure of the Yellow Register Retreat,the early Yellow Register Retreat should include three parts: Nocturnal Invocation Ritual,the XingDao Ritual and the Casting Dragon Ritual.This shows that in the southern dynasty,the Taoist Ritual format was complete,and later Taoist Ritual format was based on the LingBao Rirual.Its importance can be demonstrated from the fact that Casting Dragon Ritual was developed into an independent and complete ceremony in later generations and was highly valued by the royal family.
