This report is an English-to-Chinese translation report on the last three chapters of Swansong, written by Kerry Andrew,a famous London-based composer, educator and writer.Swansong is a psychological thriller,a supernatural tale told in a lyrical style.Chapters 14–16 are the last three chapters of the book, and these three chapters contain the climax of the whole story, which perfectly shows Kerry Andrew's writing style.Furthermore, many dialogues, figures of speech and adjectives are used in these three chapters, which cause difficulties in translation. This report is going to analyze the difficulties and propose solutions to the problems appeared in translation process. As for the lexical level,Kerry uses many adjectives to describe the eerie and weird atmosphere and the changing psychological condition of the heroin and hero, and how to translate these adjectives properly becomes a problem to the translator. Before doing the translation, the translator has read the source text three times;and used class shifts, unit shifts and four-word phrases in translation process. In the case of syntactic level, three methods are used in translating complex sentences and compound-complex sentences, such as reinventing sentence structures, combination and division. For the passive sentences, the translator uses structural shifts. The translation of lyrical language features is also a great challenge for the translator;in order to keep the target text readable and without losing the style of the source text, lyrical sentences have been translated in rhyme and semantic amplification has been used to meet the translation effect. As for the figure of speech, the translator uses literal translation and free translation. From this translation practice, the translator has got a lot of experience in translating literary works and a deep understanding that a high-quality translation report will be finished on the basis of accurate understanding of the source text and the selection of the suitable translation methods.
