| This is an E-C translation report of Chapter One,Chapter Two and Chapter Four of Cataract Surgery-A Guide to Treatment,which is a medical science book published in the US and jointly written by two American ophthalmologists,Paul.E.Garland and Bret.L.Fisher.There is no Chinese version of this book yet.It introduces knowledge of ophthalmology,cataracts and the treatment in detail.The translation of the selected chapters is expected to provide a reference for people who are interested in translating science texts,or have some understanding about scientific translation.Difficulties of this translation task mainly include two aspects: translating medical terminologies and sentences properly.In the part of translating medical terminologies,the translator analyzes eight features and five translating principles of terminologies briefly and enumarates three translating methods that are mainly used: free translation,annotation and semantic analysis.In the part of translating sentences,the translator points out three main syntactic features,analyzes translation criteria by illustrating with examples and lists six methods that are frequently used in addressing the differences between the source text and the target text,including adding,omitting,conversion,sequence changing,division and combination.Besides,the translator also analyzes rhetorical device and its translation briefly.With the completion of the translation task,the translator has obtained a deeper understanding to cataract that troubles many people and its treatment first.Besides,the translator has further mastered relevant skills of translating scientific texts and improved translating ability.Meanwhile,the translator hopes that the translation of Cataract Surgery-A Guide to Treatment can be beneficial to people who will read ortranslate medical science books in the future. |
