Researches On Thoughts About Jin Yuelin’s Correspondence Theory Of Truth

“Truth” is one of the central concepts in the field of philosophy of logic.As theories of probing into the concept of truth,the theories of truth have been extensively studied by western scholars.Jin Yuelin inherited the western theories of truth.He supported the correspondence theory of truth,which is one of the theories of truth.He believed that truth is subjectivity corresponding to objectivity,and constructed the correspondence theory system of truth which contains the meaning and the standards of truth.The study of Jin Yuelin’s correspondence theory of truth will help highlighting the contribution of Chinese scholars in the process of seeking truth and guide contemporary scholars to construct a new theory of truth.Jin Yuelin’s correspondence theory of truth pays attention not only to the connotation of “truth” but also to the acquisition of true propositions in actual experience.He regarded “correspondence” as the connotation and held that “correspondence” is the correspondence between proposition and reality,which highlights the objectivity,independence and transcendence of “truth”;he regarded coherence,practicality and consistency as the standards of truth,which enables the standards to apply to the judgment of truth and falsehood of special propositions in experience.Jin Yuelin’s correspondence theory of truth has outstanding highlights.He tried to solve the problems existing in the correspondence relation and the standards of truth.Jin Yuelin regarded proposition as an ideological content,and decomposed the reality to which proposition corresponds in experience into fact,avoiding the gap between subjectivity and objectivity by describing fact as an epistemological concept with both subjective and objective components.Jin Yuelin made the standards broken through the limitation of experience at some time or place through the transcendence of the standards,which guarantees the acquisition of the true propositions.But Jin Yuelin’s correspondence theory of truth also has some defects.He did not define the judges of truth in an identical way.Each of the three standards has its own loopholes.The transcendence of the standards denies the existence of the true propositions.The solution to the problem of the gap between subjectivity and objectivity also fails because of the vagueness of “correspondence” and “fact”.The study of Jin Yuelin’s thoughts of correspondence theory of truth relays on the method of contradictory analysis,the method of synthesis and the method of comparative research.The method of contradictory analysis is used to evaluate Jin Yuelin’s correspondence theory of truth in two divisions;the method of synthesis is used to study the theoretical content,merits and deficiencies of Jin Yuelin’s correspondence theory of truth;the method of comparative research is used to explain the concepts in Jin Yuelin’s theory,and to highlight its theoretical characteristics in the light of the viewpoints of western scholars.
