Based on the study of the calligrapher MiFu's calligraphy in the Qing Dynasty,this paper makes an in-depth study and discussion on the acceptance and inheritance of MiFu's calligraphy art in the Qing Dynasty through methods of literature analysis,chart comparison and practical summary.First of all,it analyzes MiFu's calligraphy learning portfolio,from Tang Dynasty to Jin Dynasty,referenced essence from ancient people and created new for his own,until it came into being as a " Mi style".And then followed with MiFu's ideology of respecting Jin Dynasty's calligraphy style and humble Tang Dynasty's calligraphy style,with a clean mind and the spirit of advocating true enjoyment.Secondly,with the method of tabulation statistics,tease out MiFu's rubbings,ink marks,inscriptions,titles,inscriptions and textual materials circulated from his era till the Qing Dynasty.Thirdly,it focuses on the acceptance of MiFu's calligraphy by Qing emperors,bureaucrats and civilians.Emperors in Qing Dynasty learning MiFu's calligraphy are KangXi,YongZheng and QianLong.Emperor KangXi's study of MiFu style is major in its similarity in spirit,while emperor YongZheng's study of MiFu style is focused on the similarity in appearance,and emperor QianLong's study of MiFu style is mainly at its understanding by insight.Bureaucrats who learned MiFu mainly included ShenQuan,ZhangZhao,WangShu,and WengFanggang,who were representative calligraphers that had high achievements in learning MiFu style in the Qing dynasty.ShenQuan and ZhangZhao were both good at learning MiFu style.The former paid attention to the exaggeration and contrast of ink color,while the latter paid more attention to the stability and gradation of the structure.WangShu learned MiFu style by facsimile one page and repeated it again and again.WengFanggang studied MiFu,confined to tradition,and stuck to the rules.ZhaShibiao,ZhangTingji are the main representatives of MiFu style learning from the civilians.ZhaShibiao studied MiFu style,paying attention to the method of dipping ink and the contrast between line thickness and ink shade.ZhangTingji,however,paying more attention to the drawing thickness and the virtually and reality combination.He would escape the real world and oblivious of himself in the spirit world when he was learning.He can also coalesce MiFu style with ZhongYou and YanZhenqing' encyclopedic style.Finally,by sorting out the inscriptions and postscripts of MiFu's calligraphy works,we can find out the criticism acceptance and innovation of MiFu's calligraphy by the scholars in the Qing Dynasty.In general,the study of Qing calligraphers' acceptance of MiFu's calligraphy will provide some reference for the further research and development of MiFu's calligraphy for now and the future.
