| This is a report on the translation of Handbook of Hydraulic Fracturing, from which the author excerpted chapter 8 Environmental Impact. The book was written by James G.Speight,an expert in the area of fuels development. It mainly presents an up-to-date description of current and new hydraulic fracturing processes.Chapter 8 elaborates the environmental impact of hydraulic fracturing, including air emission, water pollution, seismic effects and health effects. In addition,it elaborates the chemical addictives used in hydraulic fracturing, types of contaminants and possible pathways of contaminants. The translation report consists of four parts. The first part is task description,in which the source, significance and objectives of the task are discussed. The second part is process description, which includes preparation before translation, translation theory and translation process. The third part is the central section of this report.Under the guidance of Communicative Translation Theory, the author follows the principle “to produce on its readers an effect as close as possible to that contained on the readers of the original” to analyze the translation strategies and skills of some key and difficult cases at the lexical, syntactic and discourse level. The last part is the conclusion of the whole project. In this part, the author’s reflections and imperfections in this project are summarized. |
