High school English plays an important role in cultivating students' quality.In the English Curriculum Standard for Senior High School(2017 Edition)(hereinafter referred to as the Curriculum Standard,students' core qualities used by English the subject to cultivate are language ability,cultural consciousness,thinking quality and learning ability.In the Curriculum Standard,it is emphasized to cultivate students' core quality.That is to say,while paying attention to the development of students' ability to use English language,the Curriculum Standard advocates improving the students' ability of cultural identification so that they can gradually form the right outlook on the world and life and values.The development and use of English textbooks play an important role in English education and teaching.Therefore,starting with the four objectives of the core qualities of English subjects,the author explores how the cultivation of these core qualities of English subjects has been reflected in the contents of English textbooks.The purpose of this study is to help teachers better carry out English teaching,improve the quality of English teaching,and make students become learners with the core qualities which are to cultivated through the learning of the English subject.Based on the Standard of English Curriculum for Senior High Schools(2017 Edition),the study takes the required textbooks(five books)produced by Beijing Normal University approved and approved in 2004 as the research samples,considering the characteristics of the English textbook and English subject,and applying the methods of literature research and content analysis,this paper makes a textual analysis of the four core qualities(language ability,cultural awareness,thinking quality and learning ability)which should be cultivated in the English textbook.Through the research,it is found that from the perspective of the cultivation of the core qualities to be cultivated through the learning of the English subject,The main problems existing in the edition of the English textbook published by Beijing Normal University are as follows: first of all,the distribution of contextual themes in the textbook is unreasonable,and the English language materials used in the textbook need to be updated.Second,the number of discourses in English textbooks which accord with the characteristics of students' development is relatively small;third,there is a lack of contents in English textbooks that can help students develop critical thinking;fourth,there is little content in English textbooks about how to cultivate students' learning strategies.The improvement suggestions of high school English textbooks from the perspective of core competencies of English subjects.For example,writers should reorganize and integrate textbooks while improving their cultural competencies.In the textbook,the material of the "look" part should be added to the textbook seen from the aspect of cultivating students' language ability,and the theme context needs to be reasonably distributed as the material in the textbook needs to reflect the characteristics of the times.In the textbooks,in order to cultivate students' cultural awareness,it is necessary to increase cross-cultural comparison content,strengthen Chinese cultural output,and increase the cultural content of English as a non-native country.And in the textbooks,it is more reasonable to reflect the cultivation of students' thinking ability and learning strategies.
