As one of the earliest adjectives,“da” had rich semantic meanings since it was recorded in documents. With the increasing frequency of the co-occurrence of “da” with “bu”,“bu da” has gradually developed into a new grammatical unit.In this thesis,“bu da”,which was formed by the negative adverb “bu” and the adverb “da”,is taken as the object of the study.Based on the previous research results and the analysis of the corpus, this thesis, after drawing the conclusion that “bu da” is an adverb, carries out an all-round investigation on “bu da” from three levels: semantics, grammar and pragmatics, especially focusing on the cross-comparison of “da”,“xiao”,“bu da” and “bu xiao”,describing the situation in which the spatial dimension words other than “da” and “bu” are bound to form words in detail, and analyzing the reasons why “xiao” and other spatial dimension words can not be combined with “bu” into a new word by using theoretical knowledge of Markedness Theory and “metaphor” in Cognitive Linguistics. This thesis argues that the degree adverb “bu da” is a vague way of expression that people choose actively for the principle of politeness in language communication. |
