Ethnic stereotype are the general and fixed views which based on the psychological and behavioral characteristics of ethnic members. As a cognitive schema, ethnic stereotype is one of the important factors affecting inter-ethnic communication. The studies of gender and professional stereotype have shown that different stereotypicality(consistency, inconsistency)and valence(positive, negative)caused quantitative changes on the communication context, there by producing different transmation results. In order to explore the impact of stereotypicality and the valence on inter-ethnic communication, this study use the information of different stereotypicality and valence of Mongolian and Han ethnic stereotype as the communication content, and the Mongolian and Han nationality college students were taken as research participants. This study includes the following three experiments:In the first experiment, the serial reproduction method was used as a paradigm, and used the method of written transmission to investigate the stereotypicality(consistentency and inconsistentency)of the Mongolian and Han ethnic stereotype on the communication between the Mongolian and Han college students. In the second experiment, the serial reproduction method was used as a paradigm, and used the method of written transmission to investigate the valence(positive and negative)of the Mongolian and Han ethnic stereotype on the communication between the Mongolian and Han college students. In the third experiment, the single retelling method was used as a paradigm, and used the method of written communication to examine comprehensively the impact of stereotypicality and valence on the communication between the Mongolian and Han college students. Results as follows:1.With the transmission of Mongolian and Han ethnic stereotype by three communicators in turn, the amount of remaining information has dropped significantly.2.The impact of the stereotypicality on transmission results shows that the Han ethnic stereotype information appears inconsistency bias, that is,the number of inconsistent information are transmitted more than the number of consistent information;Mongolian ethnic stereotype information appears consistency bias, that is,the number of consistent information are transmitted by the communicator were more than the number of inconsistent information.3.The impact of the valence on transmission results showed that whether the Mongolian stereotype or the Han stereotype, the number of the positive information were transmitted more than the number of negative information.4.Compared with the Mongolian participants, the Han participants transmitted more Mongolian stereotype information;for the Mongolian stereotypes, the communicators had a tendency to transmit positive and consistent information.Above all results show that the consistency of Mongolian and Han ethnic stereotype and the valence of stereotype information have different transmission results in the communication between Mongolian and Han nationality college students. The inconsistent information of the Han stereotype and the consistent information of the Mongolian stereotype are more easily transmitted by communicators;positive ethnic stereotypes are more easily transmitted by communicators.
