Report On English Translation Of Section One In Chapter One Of Inter-Ethnic Political Integrations In Multi-ethnic States

There are many ethnic groups living in a multi-ethnic state,among which complicated inter-ethnic relations will inevitably develop.These inter-ethnic relations exert profound and tremendous impact on the state.As an important political mechanism in multi-ethnic states,whether inter-ethnic political integration can play its full role and how effective it is are directly related to the unity and stability of the multi-ethnic state and affects its future and destiny.China is a multi-ethnic state and Chinese scholars have made remarkable achievements in studying inter-ethnic political integrations in multi-ethnic states,which merit translation.Their translation can promote Chinese and foreign academic exchanges in this field,making foreign readership more aware of the theoretical and practical achievements of inter-ethnic political integration studies in China,which is important academic significance and practical value.The monograph Inter-Ethnic Political Integrations in Multi-ethnic States by Professor Zhou Ping gives a comprehensive presentation of his research achievements concerning the inter-ethnic political integration theory.This contemporary work aims to summarize the laws,universality and specificity of inter-ethnic political integrations in multi-ethnic states around the world,including China,and on this basis,seeks effective ways to improve inter-ethnic political integration effect so as to contribute to the current path of governance in China.The work has not yet been translated for publication in English.For this project,the translator selects more than 15,000 words from this work as the source text,which introduces the relationship between ethnic groups,ethnic states,ethnic communities,the evolution of ethnic and state communities,and the relationship between ethnicity and state.The source text which is non-literary belongs to the category of academic texts,presenting such characteristics as scholarship,objectivity,logic,and rigorous train of thought,etc.,calling for a realistic translation strategy.It has high requirements for the scholarship,accuracy,professionalism,readability and other characteristics of its translation.Based on her analysis of the source text and implementation of the translation project,the translator wrote her translation practice report,including such sections as description of the translation task,description of the implementation process,case analysis,and conclusion,as well as three appendices.The main difficulties solved in the translation of this translation project concern the three respects as follows:(1)on the lexical level,the original text contains a large number of political terms and some important words,which should be translated academically into English;(2)on the syntactic level,the translator needs to deal with a large number of long and difficult sentences and realize proper syntactic transformation;(3)on the textual level,the translator needs to rationalize the logical relationships between concepts and between sentences,accurately maintain the academic system of the original text,and construct the translated text and para-text that meet academic requirements.So,the translator reads a lot of parallel texts and consults many relevant materials,applying the realistic translation strategy as her guidance and combining a variety of translation methods and skills to carry out her translation on the lexical level,syntactic level and textual level.The translator strives to reproduce the conceptual propositions,academic views,and stylistic profile of the source text in its entirety,achieve a high level of readability,and make the translation as close as possible to the publication requirements of similar English-language works.Through reflecting and summarizing the translation project,the translator has gained a deeper understanding of the thematic Chinese-English translation in particular and academic works in general,improved her academic translation competence,and realized that she still has some shortcomings in translation and needs to work harder to improve herself as a translator.
