This report is based on Richard M.Hogg's book The Cambridge History of the English Language(Volume 3,Chapter 6,Sections 3-5).The book is a multi-volume masterpiece describing the history of English in detail.Its magnificent grace and authoritative content are unprecedented.Volume 3 of the book introduces English orthography,English punctuation,phonology,lexicology,syntax and the standardization process of English from 1476 to 1776,showing a unique perspective and various analysis methods.Sections 3 to 5 of Chapter 6 of Volume 3 of this book mainly introduce English pronunciation,syntax and various regional variations of English from 1476 to 1776.Guided by Hans Vermeer's Skopos theory,the author demonstrates the application of Skopos theory in the translation of language history by illustrating the concepts and principles of Skopos theory and analyzing the features of the source language.This report is divided into five parts.The first two chapters are project introduction and text analysis.Chapter Three gives a detailed introduction to the current research situation,development process,three principles of Skopos theory at home and abroad,and the comparison between Skopos theory and traditional translation theories.Chapter Four mainly illustrates the application of Skopos theory in the process of Chinese translation practice through case studies,so that the translation can achieve the goal of overall translation behavior.The last chapter summarizes the experience of the Chinese translation practice and relevant thinking in the translation practice.Through this translation practice,the author deeply realized the difficulty of translating the literary genre of language history.Translators should not only master the language expression skillfully,but also be faithful to the language features of the original text,so that the target language readers can get the same or similar reading experience as the source language readers.Finally,it is hoped that the report can provide inspiration and help to those translators who are interested in the translation of language history.
