"The Theory of Three Beauties" was put forward in 1978 by Mr.Xu Yuanchong,a marvelous translator of Chinese ancient poetry and is considered to be the highest standard for the translation of Chinese classical poetry. The theory consists of such elements as "beauty in sense","beauty in sound" and "beauty in form"."Beauty in sense" means that the translated poetry should faithfully reproduce the original poetry."Beauty in sound," means that the translated poetry should have the same musical rhythm as the original poetry."Beauty in form"means that the form of the original poetry should be preserved as much as possible. In the field of translation research and practice in China,"the Theory of Three Beauties" provides a strong theoretical basis for the aesthetic reproduction in the English translation process of Chinese poetry. With his tremendous achievements in Song Ci-poetry,Su Shi can be regarded as the most accomplished literary master in Northern Song Dynasty literary world.Su Shi carried out a comprehensive reform of the genre of poetry, transforming the Ci-poetry from the accessory of music into an independent literary form, which imbued him with the fame of "Sage of Ci-poetry" over the ages.Xu Yuanchong's translation is precise, full of music and exquisite, thus attaining the highest level of "beauty in sense","beauty in sound" and "beauty in form".By using Poems of Su Shi,translated by Xu Yuanchong,as the research object, the present research explores the aesthetic reproduction of Song Ci-poetry and the theoretical and practice significance of "the Theory of Three Beauties" in translation. This thesis is composed of three aspects:Firstly,it introduces Su Shi's Ci-poetry and the present situation of its translation;Secondly,it expounds on the theoretical framework of "the Theory of Three Beauties" so as to offer a theoretical support for further case study;Last,it explicates and analyzes the aesthetic reproduction in the translation process of Su Shi's Ci-poetry in terms of "beauty in sense","beauty in sound" and "beauty in form".The study indicates that,on the one hand,"the Theory of Three Beauties" has a strong theoretical explanatory power and guidance to the aesthetic reproduction in the translation process of Su Shi's Ci-poetry and that "the Theory of Three Beauties" is conducive to keeping intact the aesthetic elements of the original poetry so as to present the fabulous charm of Chinese classical Poetry to the target readers as well.
