PurposeThis study aimed to explore the validity of the alternative model of DSM-5 personality disorder.By using this alternative model to diagnose clinical cases, its clinical utility would be tested preliminarily. Then this study provided a new perspective for assessing personality disorder.MethodAt the first step, investigators assessed clinical cases by using the DSM-5 section II diagnostic criteria for personality disorder, and then used the alternative model for personality disorder in DSM-5 section III to assess those cases. All 90 cases were assessed one by one and diagnostic consistency between two sections was analyzed. For those 90 clients, their personality traits had been assessed by using section III.the section III has 25 trait facets which distributed in 5 high-level dimensions, and scoring rules of this section were 0,1,2,and 3.For 39 clients who received mental health counseling, they were assessed based on the section II and the section III of personality disorder. Then, several patients who met the criteria for personality disorder were selected and typical cases could be picked out for analysis.ResultsThe diagnostic consistency of section ? and section? of the DSM-5 reached 0.941;The typical case analysis showed that the diagnosis of personality disorder in section? could replace the diagnosis in section?.ConclusionThe alternative model of DSM-5 in section ? is consistent with classification model in section?in terms of diagnosis results of cases. This result shows that the alternative model could replace the previous diagnostic model and has ponderable clinical value.
