Development Tendency And Influence Factors Of Empathy Among Clinical Medical Students

Empathy including affective empathy and cognitive empathy,refers to the capacity to perceive and understand the emotion of others and then make appropriate response.Cognitive empathy is the ability to understand what another person is experiencing and feeling and the ability to view the world by standing in other's perspective.Affective empathy involves the ability to be involved in the feelings and experiences of others.It's very helpful at career development and clinical work to be equipped with appropriate level of empathy for clinical medical students.623 students involve the clinical students and non-medical students were participate in this study.Questionnaire survey was employed in this study.On the basis of grade,curriculum and clinical practice,the subjects were divided into three groups,junior(new entrants,freshman),intermediate(sophomore,junior),senior(senior,fifthgrade/first-year graduates).The first study examines the development tendency of empathy among clinical medical students during the clinical medical education.In the second study,the object is to inquiry the difference between clinical medical students and non-medical students in empathy.Along with the cause of the difference,whether medical education or the intermediary effect of other general factors.As well as the effect of major selection,gender,surgeries,emotion,personality and stress on the empathy of clinical medical students.With the application of the analysis of description,variance,chi-square,regression and mediating effect,we found that there is no significant difference between clinical medical students and non-medical students in empathy when they are new entrants.So that the significant lower level of empathy among clinical medical students is not owing to the selection of application.About effect factors of empathy,gender,state anxiety,trait anxiety,psychosis,neuroticism and stress are related to empathy of clinical medical students.In the process of clinical medical education,from junior to senior,empathy of male is first decreased and then increased in clinical medical students,but the empathy of female clinical medical students is slowly increased during medical education.The influence on empathy by clinical medical education is intermediate by nervousness.
