The main theme of this paper is the evolution of lexical meaning in two-syllabic words.We get 3003 two-syllabic words common included in Wangyunwu Dictionary and Modern Chinese Dictionary(7th edition)and take it as research objects.Through explanation contrast in these two dictionaries,we can conclude or confirm the rules of development and evolution of modern Chinese lexical meaning.The first chapter is introduction.The main elements include introduce of two dictionaries,research significance,current research,and research method.The second chapter is a comparison of common included words,reason of relatively small number of common included words,and a general description of included two-syllabic words.The third chapter is sense quantity analysis of common included words,and some analysis based on corpus.Increase of sense quantity includes seven aspects: extended meaning,general meaning,special meaning,figurative meaning,terms meaning,special mark meaning and new-things meaning.Decrease of sense quantity includes seldum-used and terms.Besides increase and decrease of sense quantity,it has another special situation,i.e.there is no change in sense quantity,single sense has changed.The forth chapter is evolution of lexical meaning analysis about one sense,including enrich and deepen,broadening,narrowing and shift of lexical meaning.Some analysis based on corpus.These two changes,including enrich and deepen,shift of lexical meaning,accounted for 79% of the total.Narrowing accounts for the smallest proportion.The fifth chapter from the perspective of the specialization of general words and generalization of terms,we make a description about some two-syllabic words which have the evolution of lexical meaning.In addition,it has another special phenomenon,i.e.some terms have new meaning of another professional terms based on the meaning of existing terms.The sixth chapter is conclusion,summarize the whole article.
