A Study Of Culture Inheriting In Construction Of City Image From The Perspective Of Linguistic Landscape

Research on “linguistic landscape” is a relatively new and hot topic in applied linguistics and sociolinguistics in recent years.Foreign scholars have achieved fruitful results on the field of linguistic landscape.In China,many studies related to linguistic landscape mostly focus on the translation of public signs.However,research that combines linguistic landscape with culture inheriting in construction of city image is relatively rare.Therefore,this thesis mainly explores and extracts the local characteristic culture of Xiongan by investigating the three counties of Xiongan.The author tries to propose some strategies that are conducive to culture inheriting from the perspective of linguistic landscape.Firstly,the author makes a literature review of relevant research at home and abroad.Secondly,the author makes a field investigation of the local characteristic culture and characteristic language usage in the three counties of Xiongan.Finally,the author compares research on linguistic landscape in other places and analyzes the cultural expressions in the linguistic landscape of metropolitan cities such as Shanghai,Tokyo and so on and proposes some strategies for culture inheriting in the future city image construction of Xiongan from the perspective of linguistic landscape.The major findings are as follows: at present,there are rich local cultural resources in the three counties of Xiongan and their manifestations mainly include the following typical cultures: the cultural of historical sites and architecture,the culture of traditional handicraft,the culture of folk boxing and the culture of spirit.The manifestations of these cultures vary according to the criteria for the division.However,the characteristics shared by these cultures mainly include localization,times and inheritance.With regard to language use,Chinese is the major language and the use of multilingualism is not obvious here,and the translation is not standardized.From the perspective of linguistic landscape,this thesis analyzes these characteristic cultures and concludes three principles: principle of localization,principle of human orientation and principle of diversity.And there are five strategies of culture inheriting:creating linguistic landscapes with regional characteristics,innovating ways to inherit culture,innovating materials to inherit culture,creating multilingual linguistic landscape signs and creating standard landscape signs.Therefore,this thesis holds that integrating the local characteristic culture into the design of the future linguistic landscape can not only inherit thelocal characteristic culture through the linguistic landscape,but also enhance the unique city image of Xiongan as an international metropolis in the future.At the same time,this thesis can also provide a new perspective for future research of culture inheriting.
