On the Genealogy of Morality is an important work of Nietzsche in his later period. In On the Genealogy of Morality,Nietzsche chose to discuss the origin of moral prejudice from the perspective of genealogy.Nietzsche argues that the values that people today consider to be noble and decent actually have a nasty and vulgar origin. It was in such a provocative way that Nietzsche boldly articulated his moral views. But,if we view this book as a work of moral philosophy,it is nothing but Nietzsche's pursuit of Aristocratic morality and accusation of slave one, which is Nietzsche's personal opinion after all,why we think so highly of Nietzsche's exploration for the origin of moral prejudices and his moral criticism? In order to clarify this problem, the author will combine Nietzsche's related work and later important philosopher's interpretation of Nietzsche,on the basis of reviewing important chapters of On the Genealogy of Morality. And the following conclusions will be drawn: Although Nietzsche called his work the investigation about the origin of the morality,it is by no means a critical work of morality in the general sense. This work includes Nietzsche's ambition of resolving European nihilism, which is consisitent in Nietzsche's thought. Therefore,Nietzsche's moral criticism is always closely related to the problem of nihilism. In this sense,On the Genealogy of Morality is not a Nietzsche's personal "moral turn",but a thought experiment under the control of nihilism.
